Halion Heroic-10
Now that we have finished raiding for the summer, we of course haven't been making much in the way of progress. But with the release of the new instance, 10 of us took on Halion heroic so we could see the new boss to round out the expansion. Only raiding about a day and a half to two days for the past 2 weeks, it was an interesting way to beat him. Our 10-man raid consisted of two paladin healers and three mages, among other things, and we had to make use of both undergeared offspecs and way undergeared alts, but I guess that just makes it all the more challenging. Happy to say, after an intense final attempt, we killed him dead.
Storming the Citadel Heroic: Cleared.
After our BQL kill two weeks ago, the 10% Icecrown buff was released, boosting damage, healing and health by an additional 5%. Last week, we took down 25-man Heroic Saurfang and Festergut without too many problems and repeated our other heroic kills before working on killing the 10-man version of Putricide heroic to unlock the heroic10 Lich King. This week, we completed our second wing achievement by killing Lady Deathwhisper heroic and therefore completing Storming the Citadel Heroic. Just Sindragosa, Putricide and the Lich King remaining in heroic-25 now.
The Crimson Hall Heroic: Cleared.
The past couple of weeks we've been exploring 25-man heroic mode, so far defeating Lord Marrowgar, Gunship Battle, Rotface, Blood Princes, Valithria Dreamwalker and now Blood Queen Lana'thel on heroic 25-man mode. This puts us at 6/12 heroic mode. Some of the hard modes aren't much of a step-up at all (lets not even mention Gunship), while others seem quite a big jump, especially the ones we haven't killed yet. Our next targets are likely to be Saurfang and Festergut.
Lich King, 25-man
The 25-man version of the Lich King encounter has been defeated. It's still an epic encounter, but definitely relieving to get it out of the way. Long fights with many phases are such a pain to learn. Next week, we'll be starting on heroic modes. In 10-man, we reached 7/12 on our first week of heroic10, despite only being in there for a couple of hours with any kind of reasonable group due to focusing on 25. We defeated the first four bosses, plus Rotface, Festergut and Blood Queen Lana'thel in heroic mode.
Grand Crusader
We are pleased to announce that after many weeks completing the instance with 49 attempts remaining due to random bugs, silly mistakes or crap luck, we finally achieved Tribute to Insanity in 25-man TotGC and with it earned the Grand Crusader title for a realm first kill. Thank you to everyone who was there or has ever been there in learning it and congratulations on the new title.
Lich King, 10-man
After lots of really close tries the previous tuesday, one of our 10-man groups finally downed the Lich King in 10-player mode. A very epic fight and definitely a fitting end boss for the expansion. With the other 10-man group also very close to a kill, we expect to have killed him with two separate groups in time for playing with heroic modes next week. Meanwhile the fight against the Lich King in 25-man mode continues, and we hope to see some serious progress on that next..
The Frostwing Halls: Cleared
Sindragosa has been killed in 25-man Icecrown Citadel, rounding up the last of the wings for us. A misleadingly difficult fight that really doesn't begin until 30%, though the majority of our wipes were spent trying to figure out our own strategies. But hey, it's more fun that way than reading about it a week later and just acting out a guide. Only the Lich King remains in normal mode now, and we'll be coming for him soon.
The Crimson Hall: Cleared
With the defeat of Blood Queen Lana'thel, we've now completed the 25-man version of the Crimson Hall in normal mode, that marks two out of three wings down. The 25-man lag has been extremely frustrating, but it's nice that we're at least managing to progress in spite of it, even though I'm certain we'd have killed her last week if we hadn't wasted around 3 full attempts wiping to the lagfest. One more wing to go and then on to face the Lich King.
The Plagueworks: Cleared
GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! The first properly difficult boss in Icecrown Citadel, Professor Putricide has been killed, after several near-misses caused by bad phase transitioning. All in all the plagueworks was an entertaining wing with some nice variety, and if the remaining bosses match up, ICC should prove to be a very interesting instance indeed. In other news since the last post, we also completed Mad Skill on 25-man in the Coliseum.
Heroic Anub'arak and a Tribute to Skill
It's been quite a while coming but after many weeks of slack time, getting people drakes, sorting our roster, acquiring the raid buffs we needed and gearing up, we worked out a strategy and finally started some heavy wiping to learn this challenging boss. Having barely made any attempts at all until less than two weeks ago, we expected to struggle to get the boss down before Icecrown was released and it became much more trivial, but here it is, Anub'arak 25-man heroic has been killed and Tribute to Skill completed. A huge thank you to everyone who worked on learning the fight and downing the boss.
Heroic Val'kyr, One Light & Glory of the Ulduar Raider
In the past two weeks we spent some time working on the last meta achievement for our Ulduar 25-man proto drakes, completing Yogg-Saron with only Thorim's help. After doing it that way, the easy mode fight never seemed such a joke. This week we then put some focus back into the Crusader's Coliseum and defeated the Twin Val'kyr on heroic mode on our second day of focused attempts. The strategy took some tweaking but once we found the right balance it seemed to go pretty well.
Heroic Jaraxxus, Faction Champions and Firefighter
Continuing on from our Beasts kill we went on and defeated the heroic version of Lord Jaraxxus, which seemed nicely tuned after the hotfix buffs to the encounter. After defeating him we continued on with our remaining attempts and also killed the Faction Champions after a few shots to work out a strategy. To round up the week we decided to lay off the extremely difficult Twin Valkyr heroic encounter and went back to deal with our unfinished business in Ulduar, defeating Mimiron hard mode in order to unlock Algalon. The amount of extra gear made it feel a little cheap, but the fight was still entertaining enough.
Heroic Beasts and 10-man Trial of Skill
The heroic mode has finally been released for the new Coliseum instance and thankfully the 25-man is not the incredible pushover that the original normal mode was. Last week we spent a lot of time on the 25-man heroic Northrend Beasts encounter, which was quite a huge step up in difficulty to anything in the normal instance. It doesn't even compare. Unfortunately, we ran out of attempts after some pretty decent wipes on Icehowl. The enrage timer was extended in the hotfix after the reset and coming back to the fight we downed it in the second attempt of the night. A shame not to kill it before the nerf/fix but that's life. In addition to this, we sent a group into the 10-man heroic mode. Most of the encounters in 10-man weren't a big step up from normal at all and we ended up one-shotting most of them. Anub'arak actually proved a challenge though, but after a small setup change we killed him with 30 tries remaining.
Freya Hard Mode
We have now completed Knock, Knock, Knock on Wood, the hard mode for Freya, in 25-man. After a number of messy tries it finally clicked and suddenly we had one almost completely flawless attempt that ended in a very satisfying kill. There are now only two more hard modes left for us to defeat in Ulduar for the 25-man Glory. In addition we've naturally been keeping up with the so far unsatisfying Coliseum bosses, killing the Twin Val'kyr on the first attempt.
Algalon, 10-man mode
After a painful 4% wipe last week, Algalon the Observer has been defeated. The fight itself was not particularly interesting, the only real challenge being the tight time-limit. The 25-man encounter may be different, but at least in 10-man the only reason it takes so long is that by the time you get there after a week of waiting, remember where you were at and get back into the fight you've already wasted half your time in just a couple of attempts. However the event with Rhonin in Dalaran was a nice touch, and hopefully lots of people got to see it. Thank you to anyone who whispered their congratulations after the event transpired.

Trial of the Crusader and Utgarde Keep(?!)
New patch, new content and... oh wait it was only one boss a week and we're so far killing them in around one try. The Northrend Beasts and Lord Jaraxxus have been killed so far with very little effort. In light of the extremely disappointing difficulty level of the new instance, some of us have decided to do things more worthy of actual achievement instead. And so I present to you naked Heroic Utgarde Keep (using weapons and jewellery only):
